THE PANDEMIC HIT THE GLOBAL AVIATION INDUSTRY HARD. DURING THESE DARK DAYS, WE LOOKED INTO THE FUTURE –

WHEN WE KNEW
THE SUN WOULD
SHINE AGAIN.

WE KNEW THE DAY WOULD COMe WHEN WE WOULD WELCOME BACK PASSENGERS EN MASSE.

We envisioned a more efficient experience and an even friendlier, welcoming airport for everyone. That took persistence, planning, collaboration and innovation. We accomplished this as a team in partnership with our community.

2022 WAS A YEAR OF RENEWAL & NEW BEGINNINGS FOR THE EDMONTON METROPOLITAN REGION – IN BOTH PASSENGER TRAVEL & CARGO SERVICES.

WE WERE RESILIENT & WORKED STEADFASTLY IN 2022 KNOWING THE PANDEMIC & OUR INDUSTRY WAS SHIFTING TOWARD A RECOVERY.

This past year marked a turning point in the pandemic and in the revival of global air travel – a new beginning for the industry and everyone who wants to explore, do business and reconnect with loved ones. YEG rapidly regained air service in 2022, serving more destinations than prior to the pandemic.

YEG is well-regarded and respected for the value we place on partnerships. This helped us secure more flights to more places.

From e-commerce deliveries to moving specialized equipment and supplies for the energy sector, to agri-food product shipments and much more, YEG is a growing cargo and logistics hub with an increasingly international reach.

FEWER LINES

FREE TIME.

IN OUR EFFORTS TO MAKE YEG AS SAFE, SECURE & EFFICIENT FOR TRAVELLERS AS POSSIBLE, WE LAUNCHED A NEW VIRTUAL QUEUING SYSTEM FOR CENTRAL SECURITY CALLED YEG EXPRESS.

With YEG EXPRESS, passengers can reserve a timeslot at Central Security and jump to the front of the line. Appointments can be scheduled online in advance or at the airport upon arrival.

accessibility

One of the ways YEG has furthered our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is in its partnership with Hidden Disabilities Sunflower.

This internationally recognized program provides Sunflower-branded items for passengers to wear to discreetly indicate to people around them that they may need additional support, help or simply more time.

APRIL 21, 2021 WAS A
MEANINGFUL DAY FOR YEG.

WE WERE THE FIRST AIRPORT IN THE WORLD TO SIGN THE CLIMATE PLEDGE & COMMIT TO BE CARBON NEUTRAL BY 2040.

We operate in a global context and understand our decisions must take people and our planet into consideration.

We will meet our identified goal with a combination of direct actions from our comprehensive Energy Management Program and potential offsets related to our electricity usage.

APPROXIMATELY 70% OF OUR EMISSIONS ARE TIED TO ELECTRICITY USE.

This is a pledge we will nurture every step of the way.

WE TRULY BELIEVE IN EMBRACING OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITY AND BEING

AN AIRPORT
FOR EVERYONE.

Acting on Indigenous Reconciliation is a priority for YEG. In 2022, we became the first Canadian airport to introduce an immersive Indigenous experience and retail space.

THE INDIGENOUS
INTERPRETIVE & RETAIL CENTRE

IS ONE WAY YEG IS DEMONSTRATING IT’S COMMITMENT TO CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC RECONCILIATION.

Travelers now have the opportunity to purchase beautifully crafted items – both traditional and contemporary – from Indigenous artists.

ALL REVENUE GENERATED GOES DIRECTLY TO THE ARTISANS FROM ALBERTA & THE NORTH.

THE SPACE WAS THOUGHTFULLY DESIGNED AND CREATED WITH THE GUIDANCE OF

an Elders and Knowledge Keepers Circle, with representation from Treaties Six and Eight, the Métis Nation of Alberta, Métis Settlements General Council, the Dene Nation, Inuvialuit Regional Corporation and the Inuit Communities in Edmonton.

WE ALSO
SIGNED A FORMAL PARTNERSHIP WITH INDIGENOUS TOURISM ALBERTA (ITA).

This means we will focus on partnerships and reconciliation, connections between our organizations and associated businesses, and building awareness for Indigenous tourism opportunities.

land acknowledgment

Edmonton Airports proudly acknowledge the ancestral and traditional Territory of Treaty Six and the Métis homeland. Treaty Six is the gathering place and travelling route of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux. We thoughtfully acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries, and whose voices are so important in paving a path forward together in reconciliation. We commit to listening to and learning from our Indigenous community, creating meaningful partnerships and opportunities based on shared values and objectives, and working together toward meaningful economic prosperity that will ensure the success of future generations.
